Chapter Six
What is a Ghost?
Once as I walked into my den, I almost ran over a stranger standing just inside the doorway. In a panic but rapidly weighing my options, I had to decide quickly how to get away from this person, but he was within arm's length, in what had been my safe home just a few minutes ago.
Since he was not my husband, there was no reason for him to be there unless he was a burglar or someone who meant to do me harm. Trying to get out of this intruder's way before I ran completely over him and had no chance of escape, I continued to check out this man from his shoes up, because he should not have been in my house.
Having to make a life-altering examination of this man in a split second was critical. My heart was pounding and my breath stuck in my throat. My mind went into overdrive. What is the best method of escape? How do I fight back? Look at his hands and see if they are reaching for me!
He was looking straight ahead with his arms at his sides and never even turned to look at me. Beyond any doubt, I knew that he was aware of my presence. Now I had time to investigate a little more but I was still frightened out of my mind.
