room with which they are not familiar. Friendly guides help them to realize where they are and how to proceed. Those guides help them to focus their attention on where they are. They usually allow them as much time as they need to realize that they are indeed dead - or what we on Earth consider dead.
When the dead person realizes that he is still alive, it sometimes takes an adjustment period. Preconceived notions can occasionally be hard to dismiss, but the heavenly guides help.
Most murderers go to the Other Side in a rage. Loss of control is hard for them to fathom. Their fury puts them into a dark place, from what I have seen. Though the Light of God is still a part of them, the anger keeps them in the dark. It is as if they have built a dark cocoon around them, which they carry from place to place. Like a badge of dishonor, any spirit can instantly recognize a person from the dark side and realize he still needs considerable spiritual development.
If the dead person believes he is going to hell, then he will for the amount of time he wishes to punish himself. Hell is anything a person needs it to be. Certain ghostly spirits feel a need for punishment. There is no one who sits on the Other Side waiting to send you to heaven or hell. Instead, each spirit deals out his own punishment according to what he feels is necessary. Those more enlightened spirits know that the time they waste with punishment takes away from their time learning from the experiences they had on Earth.
Most believe that when they die, they will end up in heaven. Heaven is the light of which I was speaking. It is God's presence. Since we are all part of God, then we are constantly in His presence, no matter which side we are on.
There are ghosts who think that because they have committed terrible wrongs in life, they will never go to heaven.
If they believe in their hell strongly enough, they will go there on the Other Side. We spirits manifest what we need for our development.
In this case, the soul may feel it is far from the light when in truth all it has to do is change its beliefs. Then it is wherever it needs to be.
One thing I have learned from speaking with my ghostly friends is that a ghost is already in the light. We are the light, and we are conceived into the physical world already in the light as well. The light is God, and we are part of Him.
